My husband and I both grew up in small towns -- mine being only 550 people and I lived 5 miles west of that little town. So, we both have a rich history of living with nature, fresh air, quiet back yards and a sky full of stars on clear nights. Living in a college town and then one of the largest suburbs in Illinois, we've grown to miss the quiet life. So, when we started looking for a house to buy, we knew we wanted a little land to go with it -- to bring us back to our small town roots a bit, but without really leaving the amenities that come along with living in the suburbs.
As I look outside our windows, I long for spring -- I can't wait to see what flowers and plants are just waiting to bloom in our yard. I looked out the window this afternoon, and look what I saw:
the most beautiful male cardinal, all plumped up and keeping warm in this frigid winter weather. I think he was actually posing for me here -- I was only about 2 feet away from him in the house.
Isn't that cool?
