Death of a Squirrel

How do you explain death to a 4 year old? How about the death of a squirrel? There is a dead squirrel in the middle of the road right at the end of our driveway. When we arrived home tonight, I was hoping the 4 year old wouldn't notice it and by morning some other animal would have found the squirrel and carried it off.

But, no...the 5 year old noticed and said, "Mommy is that a dead squirrel in the road?"
me: "yes"
4 year old: "how did it get there?
me: "I think it was trying to get a nut and ran in front of a car. The car must not have seen the squirrel and accidentally hit it."
4 year old: "Well, he should have raised his hand, then the car would have seen him."
4 year old: "Or that squirrel should have been walking with his mom across the road and the car would have seen the tall mommy squirrel."

Is she 4 or 5? If you are already messing that up it's time to just use her real name...then nobody will know that you can't remember. :)

Sorry...she's only 4, yeah I forget sometimes! She has the hormones and mood swings of a 16 year old and the reading skills of a 7 year old, but acts like a 6 month old at times too! Most days I don't know how old she is.....depends on her mood :)

Thanks for noticing my poor mothering skills, Tyler! :)

If I use her real name then when you google search her name, my blog is like 3rd on the list....scary! Gotta protect my family
