We are in dire need of a new vacuum (well, okay I think we are at least!). I have been cleaning more than I usually do, since our house has been on the market since March -- I feel like I am CONSTANTLY cleaning and our vacuum doesn't seem to be able to keep up with me!

My preference is something with a bag. The others just don't have as much suction, and you have to clean the filters--I hate digging out clumps of dust with my fingers! Also, the washable filter can take a long time to dry, and they can mildew. My favorite right now is the Hoover Windtunnel with a bag and a motorized hand tool--the hose is long enough to do a flight of stairs without moving the vacuum. It also has a light that tells you when the carpet is free of imbedded dirt! That's a great motivation factor. Oh well, looks like you really hit my area of interest! Sorry for all the detail.
