Our friend, Rich

Each Thanksgiving, the big sister and I have created placecards/name cards for Thanksgiving dinner. This year, I struggled with what to create -- being that now there were 2 children, less time and energy to think. One day the big sister traced her hand on her chalkboard in her playroom and -- a-ha! the idea hit me! We traced little brother's hand as well and viola! we have a placecard! I took a picture of their 'turkey' hands and printed pictures and attached them to cards. Big sister wrote everyone's name. I assisted with spelling as needed, but when it came to her name, I just told her, "go ahead and write your name now", and I went to finish laundry (or someother mundane chore). When I returned, I saw this:

RICH? yes, my daughter often refers to herself as Rich, you know -- from the Imagination Movers. She has referred to herself as Rich for some time now, but she often goes back and forth from her name to Rich. It has been a couple of weeks since she's been "Rich", so I didn't think twice about her writing her own name vs. Rich. I could only smile when I read this....I don't know what this means from a psychologist's stand point that she refers to herself as a man, but who cares at point -- she's only four.
