Do you ever have one of those days that you are so exhausted that neither you nor your spouse has any energy left to put a toddler to bed? You know, bedtime runs at least 1/2 hour -- with toothbrushing, going potty, getting pj's on, reading a story, saying prayers, and finally into bed for the evening. We've been pretty lucky, our toddler is a good sleeper -- she really likes her naps and her bed and sleeps through the night 99% of the time.
But, sometimes you're just so tired that even 1/2 hour seems like it will just take every ounce of energy you have left. That usually happens around here at our house about 2-3 times a month.
It happened the other night. We were watching TV and "Last Comic Standing" was on TV. Now, we don't really watch that much TV at our house. But, when you're having one of those days, the TV is on and you're zoned out. The hubby and I were zoned, the toddler was playing and watching a little TV at the same time.
We figured the toddler wouldn't really catch any of the jokes on the TV show, right? Well, this is what we heard:
COMIC: "I want a dog that's part squirrel and part labrador retriever. No matter what, with this kind of animal, it will get mad if you play with it's nuts!" (there was more to the joke, but I don't remember it all -- just the punch line)
(after a long pause while the hubby and I are cracking up laughing)
TODDLER: "why will the squirrel be mad if you play with it's nuts?"
That's when we just lost it! I said to the daddy, "yeah, daddy, why would the squirrel be mad?"
He had no comment.
LIFE LESSON: put your kids to bed on time and don't expose them to adult TV programs!

haha. Can so relate to this post! So did Daddy ever answer the question? haha
:)
I hate it when bedtime sneaks up on us when we're exhausted. Nothing like wrangling a bunch of kids into bed when you just want to crash yourself.
